I don't believe she dated Aaron Neville .... he was / is still married and Linda commented on his wife in several interviews so I presume they were friends

An Old News Item from 1990Harrisburg Daily Register September 15 1990, Harrisburg, Illinois From Chicago Tribune, 1990 - RONSTADT TAKING THE PLUNGE? People magazine reports that Linda Ronstadt and Quint Davis, a New Orleans entertainment exec, will be making beautiful music together. Expect a wedding at Christmastime, People says. People Magazine, 1990 - Ronstadt & Davis The women portrayed in her 1987 Songs of My Father LP, she said, “don’t defer to men. They just don’t compete with them.” Nor did Linda Ronstadt herself compete, in past relationships with California’s then Gov. Jerry Brown and with producer George Lucas. But things may change now that she’s dating someone in the music business, New Orleans impresario Quint Davis, producer of the city’s annual Jazz and Heritage Festival. Davis, the son of a prominent architect, plays on his reputation as an iconoclastic loner. Still, says a friend, he and Ronstadt “are wild for each other. She has flown in on her private plane to see him.” They’ve even been seen strolling hand in hand through the French Quarter. Davis has forbidden his family and friends to discuss the relationship and denies rumors that Linda has bought a Garden District manse. On March 18 Ronstadt arrived late for a fund-raiser for the city’s homeless and, after a duet with Aaron Neville, skipped out—without Quint. Was that because, as rumored, she and Davis are on the outs? Linda will never tell. “I’m real happy to talk about the music,” she has said, “but that other stuff is just what happens to you.” Nola.com, 2009 article about Quint Davis - He moves among music's elite. He counts Paul Simon and Jimmy Buffett as friends and he has dated Linda Ronstadt. Wonder why they never got married, she didn't mention him in her book.

Quote by germancanadian: One must always keep in mind that Linda's book was a "musical memoir"; it wasn't a kiss-and-tell thing. As for not getting married...well, I think she was already married, to her music.

Never heard of Linda owning a plane or having a pilot's license or someone who could fly a plane for her. Still, I could see Linda renting a plane and hiring a pilot to fly anywhere she wanted to go and avoiding the crowded airports and fans.

After reading all these posts some conclusions are obvious. This guy was a business man who was seen with Linda in 73/74 and there have been several other sightings over the years. Probably a lot more than we know by people who have never heard of this site.Rick Norton in no way resembles the man were looking for. Someone wrote of a sighting in Las Vegas and the way they both acted together, particularly how he treated her, and that description should make us all smile that she has had someone for nearly 45 years. The special someone that most of us have had in our lives. Hopefully. Don't think I really want to know who this man is but he must be really special if he has been with Linda for so many years. Maybe just friends, maybe lovers maybe both. Nice knowing that she has had a soulmate all these years.

Maybe just friends, maybe lovers maybe both. Nice knowing that she has had a soulmate all these years. Suppose it's a case of the names have been changed to...keep anyone from finding out? And that Richard is just a red herring designed to throw everyone off? The only man Linda acknowledged that she was going to marry was George Lucas, saying she had the engagement ring and all. But, they never married. If it had been someone who was with Linda from the early 70s, my guess would be John Boylan. He's still with her today. And it could be they've had their off and on moments, where they break away from each other but can't bear to be apart from each other for too long of a period. J.D. Souther may be another possible. And one thing I would keep in mind is that many men may have claimed they were dating her, when in fact they were not. The rumor about Linda marrying a New Orleans businessman sounds similar to a claim by an Alabama woman who claimed in 1975 that she and Elvis Presley were going to wed. The woman even went so far as to publish an announcement in her local newspaper about her upcoming wedding. The pending event came as news to Elvis and he made it clear he wasn't about to get married at the time. Linda dated several men throughout her celebrity life and if there was someone in the background no one knew about, imagine how he must've felt seeing Linda date all these other men while he had to remain in the background being the real love. He would had to have been just about the most secure man in the world, being in that kind of an open relationship. I couldn't see Linda doing that to any man.

Don't ruin our fantasy slide (if that's what it is) lol. We want somewhat happy endings here.

I don't know how she worded it exactly nor do I recall the exact interview but it was from a recent video interview when the subject of her "sex symbol" status was mentioned and how a lot of men were in love with her, by the interviewer, Linda's response was somewhat dismissive (kind of how she dismisses her talent) that nobody was ever in love with her (and she was pretty adamant with her statement).. I found that to be quite sad actually and what did she mean by that?

Don't ruin our fantasy slide (if that's what it is) lol. We want somewhat happy endings here. The happy ending for me would be a cure for Linda's illnesses. If Linda has someone (besides her children) in the background we don't know about who brings her much happiness and joy, that would be wonderful. But, I know she spoke of raising her two kids without a man being around and she was okay with that. However, if there was anyone who could've zealously guarded her privacy, it's Linda. So, it wouldn't surprise if Linda has had someone all these years and it was someone we didn't know and we were never the wiser.

I found that to be quite sad actually and what did she mean by that? The Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Presley effect. Men loved Linda Ronstadt the celebrity, but not Linda Ronstadt the human being. She once said she wished her sex life was as good as a Snickers bar. Who knows how many time she was hurt by men who loved her image but not her? That's a hurt that would've taken a long time to get over, and it would've made her all the more guarded the next time a man expressed interest in her. She had her faults as well, it may have been difficult for some men to get past her faults. Maybe disagreements over little things and worries that if a relationship that led to marriage and it didn't work out, men could also sue for community property as well. I remember Linda telling Rolling Stone any man she dated had to have about $50 million in the bank because she thought she wouldn't have anything in common with someone who made less. That, however, may have been a lie Linda told as part of her public persona. When Linda dated Jim Carrey, one thing he was not was someone who was worth $50 million at the time. It may be Linda was let down by love too many times and she just gave up. And it may be another reason "Simple Dreams" didn't have anything about her relationships is that she didn't want to relive those heartaches.

The earliest sighting we know about is from 73'/74' in Worchester ? which seems like a very credible post. Sightings also from Frankfurt and most recently in Las Vegas. I think its safe to conclude that this relationship spans more the 40 years. Given the secrecy of the relationship and the way Linda has managed to keep it completely private I think a reasonable assumption is that this gentleman, Rick, was her true life's love. No purpose in speculating why they never married but do think that Linda was so laser focused on her career as it was taking off in the 70's that a marriage would not have been a priority of hers. Based on where some of there sightings have been I think its safe to assume that Rick was a man of some means and could make the time to meet with Linda.I am curious as to who this person is but you have to respect Linda for wanting this intimate part of her life to be kept private. Like others have said I am really happy for her for having someone who she has loved and who has loved her for more than 40 years. The last sighting of her in Las Vegas and the way it was described that he touched her face and kissed her was so beautiful. Lucky woman in so many ways.

This would make a great movie theme based on her life once she is gone. I hope she leaves some clues behind. I would think Emmy and some others would know about it.

A careful read of these many posts shows that Linda and Rick have been an item for over 40 years and many of the sightings over those years have confirmed what can only be described as an intimate, caring and loving relationship. Given that this has been kept from the public eye for so many years indicates that both Rick and Linda intend to keep the relationship out of the public domain forever. The sightings that have been posted are a slight peek into her personal life and I assume there are other sightings of them. Maybe some others will come forward with additional info. I totally agree with a couple of the sentiments (and frankly hopes) that Linda has had a love of her life hidden away from her fans. Most of us only want the best for her and my hope is that Rick can be by her side in these difficult times she is going through. Sounds like a real Love Story. We should all be so lucky.
