Today we’re going to talk about the most important benefit of autophagy.
What is autophagy? Autophagy is a condition where your body is recycling old and damaged proteins in the body. I’m not talking just about hair and muscle. I’m talking about those little enzyme protein machines that do the work of the body. They’re at the cellular level, and they make body tissue.
Benefits of autophagy:
• It decreases the risk of disease • It will help recycle protein as a survival mechanism • It can help reduce pathogens in the body • It protects neurons and heart cells • It gets rid of advanced glycated end products and amyloid plaquing
**The most important benefit of autophagy is anti-cancer.
The difference between a normal cell and a cancer cell has to do with this one thing.
A normal cell has something called mitochondrial respiration.
A cancer cell has damage to this respiratory mechanism. When you damage this system, the cell starts to activate an ancient pathway that’s capable of fermenting glucose without the use of oxygen.
Cancer cells are hungry for glucose. Why would anyone want to consume a lot of sugar or glucose if they have cancer?
But why is there damage to the respiratory mechanism in the mitochondria? My theory is that it has something to do with the DNA that gets damaged. I believe it gets damaged because it's simply not protected. Autophagy may have the ability to clean up this damage in the mitochondria.

My guest is renowned cancer expert Professor Thomas Seyfried. He states that the primary difference between a cancer cell and a regular cell is how they generate energy. Healthy cells take protein, fat, and carbs from the food you eat. These are combined with oxygen to produce energy. Tumor cells function without oxygen; they generate energy by fermentation. The two man fuel sources for cancer are sugar and glutamine, and the cells are dependent on large amounts of these two substances.
Cancer can be caused by many different insults to our body, which can cause genetic mutations. Currently, most medical professionals believe that mutations cause cancer. But Professor Seyfried over years has shown that free radical damage to the respiratory function of the mitochondria, the cell’s energy powerhouses, is truly the cause. When the cells can no longer respire for energy, they must get their energy by fermentation. Over 1,600 people a day in the US die from cancer as a result of this tragic misunderstanding of the nature of cancer.
If you can prevent free radical damage to the mitochondria, you can prevent cancer. Treating cancer requires taking away the tumor cells’ energy sources of glucose and glutamine. The ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting are excellent tools for taking away the glucose. Tumor cells can’t use ketones for fuel. Keto is then paired with the drug DON, a powerful glutamine inhibitor.
Professor Seyfried’s team has never found a cancer cell that can survive in the absence of glucose and glutamine, no matter the type of cancer. But there isn’t one hospital or cancer research center that’s using the combination of keto plus DON on people, despite an abundance of evidence of its effectiveness in managing cancer. Studies on mice have shown promising outcomes. But when the prevailing belief is that cancer’s cause is genetic not metabolic, most medical professionals focus on genetics. And DON isn’t readily available in the required amounts; plus, it’s considered toxic, although it’s truthfully not as toxic as some commonly used treatments such as chemo.
