Although the eyes are the window to the soul, the voice may be the window to health. Our voices are produced by a complicated dance among the respiratory, laryngeal, and articulatory systems. Disruption in any of these systems produces changes in our voice, which can be seen from babies with autism to the elderly with Parkinson's disease. Here, we demonstrate vocal changes in different disorders and how statistical models can quantify these vocal changes, using baby cries from our ChatterBaby Cry Translator research study.
