The Scribe meets Linda Ronstadt
April 27, 1972
APRIL 27, 1972
Linda and Me
MONTHS LATER:
Performance captured from the very first airing of The Midnight Special (August 19, 1972).
Here is a photo of her then group all which look to be in the video. Richard Bowden was very helpful in gathering the boys up for a photo. Surprisingly Ed and Mickey are both from where I landed permanently (Tempe Phoenix AZ) just a few years later. Ed, the guy with the lips founded what is now called The Marquee Theatre here in Tempe on the Salt River but at the time he called it The Red River Opry. He got to realize his dream but died soon after. Nice guy. Talented. All of them went on to record with her on Don't Cry Now. They were very excited Linda allowed them to do that and were looking forward to it immensely.

Soon after I met Linda and about the time of the video she was interviewed for a national magazine. She described our meeting to a T. She said "right after a recent concert this guy came up to me (with lots of pictures to autograph) and told me I was his favorite singer and I thought to myself, man does this guy have BAD taste!" The article was about how she wasn't too happy with her music or singing at the time. I have to tell you though even if you didn't care for her music she was ELECTRIC in her live performances. She was very flirty in concert and men went crazy for her! It was "Reverse Elvis." She had quite an effect on them including my friends who never heard of her until entering my Ronstadt shrine of a dorm room. They decided to go to the concert and were transformed into tomcats in heat. After the show they came running to my dorm room as graceful as pigs on ice and practically blew off my locked door. All new fans after that one brief show.
