Very stable genius? Is Donald Trump a rhetorical master?Guardian News 05:09 ‘People don’t like to hear this but Donald Trump is a rhetorical genius’, says Dr Jennifer Mercieca an expert on US presidential rhetoric and political communication from Texas A&M University. Delving into Trump’s choice of rhetorical devices may offer some interesting clues into how the worst of Trump scandals have failed to make a dent on his popularity among his supporters. Rhetorical devices are techniques that are used to persuade and the Ancient Greeks were masters of them. They have intimidating Latin names such as ‘ad baculum’ and ‘paralipsis’ but are quite simple to decipher once you now the basics. Dr Mercieca is convinced Trump’s mastery of rhetoric has enabled him to avoid being held accountable, make his audience feel like they are part of a secret club, they have even helped him get out of a court case Subscribe to Guardian News on YouTube ► bit.ly/guardianwiressub
