Since 2017, disinformation researchers have been sounding the alarm on QAnon: a deranged conspiracy theory that claims President Trump is working to root out a sex-trafficking ring run by Democratic politicians, Hollywood celebrities, and members of the so-called "deep state." Its absurdity would be laughable — if the QAnon community weren't tied to a slew of violent crimes.
And this election season, QAnon will be on the ballot. According to Alex Kaplan, senior researcher for Media Matters for America, at least 13 congressional candidates with ties to the conspiracy theory will be up for election this fall. He and Bob discuss some of these politicians and how this fringe theory broke into mainstream political discourse.
This is a segment from our July 17th program, “This Is Fine”.
