Liberal and conservative have different meanings in different countries especially between the US and Europe.
Conservatives in the US now are an extension of the Confederates whom we fought during the American Civil War. They fled the Democratic Party in 1965 because Democratic president LBJ signed the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts into law. They joined the Republican Party in droves and accepted the "corporate, big business, wealthy elitism" that was at the core of that (Republican) party while keeping their own racist values.
The Republican Party ended up with all the old racist conservative Democrats, kept the Republican billionaire corporate idealism and joined forces with the CIA in a sick symbiotic relationship that benefitted both organizations. To make things worse the chronically disenfranchised Libertarians (trickle down folks) infiltrated and hijacked the Republican Party and infected them with their own ideals and rhetoric.
Not long after right wing media noise and FOX were created as their propaganda arm. So now we have a party called the Republican Party that has all the worst of the worst inhabiting it. The billionaire corporate global elites pull their strings, fund their campaigns, write their laws to have them implement, push to deregulate all environmental gains ever made so they can legally get away with their polluting crimes, give massive tax cuts to themselves and their wealthy overclass, fund right wing and corporate mainstream media among other nefarious things. This is all done now under the name of CONSERVATISM. It is a bonified cult. It is self perpetuating. And it threatens the world. I refer to these people as RepubliConservatives.
You will NOT find anyone that calls themselves a Liberal, Progressive, Independent in the Republican Party. That cult is complete with conservative membership, growing and gaining. They control the messaging. That is why it is disturbing to people like me when so called Liberals, Progressives, etc. start echoing or repeating Republiconservative talking points.
There is NO real coherent Liberal movement or party. Our Democratic Party is at least a home to several different voices but it is not perfect by a long shot. It is the ONLY way a Progressive like Bernie or a Liberal like Warren can get a shot at taking power and implementing their ideas. We have a two party system so they do what they have to do. But our Founders rigged the system to favor the small states that are mostly red (conservative thinking and leaning). That is why things are so F'd up and why the GOP republiconservative controlled party is doing everything they can electorally wise to stay in power with all of their election shenanigans.
