Linda Ronstadt & Swampwater: Break My Mind, 1970
Published on Apr 17, 2016
Personnel: Linda Ronstadt: lead vocals Gib Guilbeau: rhythm guitar, harmony vocals John Beland: lead guitar Eric White: bass guitar, harmony vocals Stan Pratt: drums
This is one of the only videos I've ever found of Swampwater, making it a gem despite its horrid quality. Here we see the early Eric White version of the group (Eric was the brother of Clarence & Roland White and later dropped the bass to become their road manager). The cameramen must have been autistic because there isn't one shot of John Beland, even during his solo. This version ain't as good as the studio version (which featured Clarence White on lead guitar), but it's such a treasure to see Swampwater in a video.
This was uploaded in honor of Gib Guilbeau, who recently passed away. RIP to the founding father of Country Rock. this was finally repostedLinda Ronstadt - Break My Mind [Live with Swampwater 1970] MrDomin099 Stone 24 views Jun 2, 2023 A young, relaxed and barefoot Linda Ronstadt sings the John D. Loudermilk song, Break My Mind, live with her 1970 band, Swampwater. Break My Mind was a track on her first solo album, Hand Sown ... Home Grown.
The band includes Gib Guilbeau (guitar) Eric White (bass) and Stan Pratt (drums).
A year later Linda's band would include future Eagles' members, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, Glenn Frey and Randy Meisner.
The performance was featured in the 1970 film Calebration, made to highlight acts booked by kdf reynolds.

MURRAY ROMAN'S TV SHOW KABC 7 1970
Linda Ronstadt has some great performances here. Long Long Time at 12:25 and Walking Down The Line at 31.27 . Great time capsule of what variety tv was like back then. Not very politically correct lol. She is also in the background of the "cafe scene." Bernie Leadon joins her, Chris Darrow? Similar performances to the Playboy After Dark episode.
I have to say I just love Walking Down The Line. It is pure Linda. I have listened to many versions of that song and NO ONE sings it like that. Like Hugh Hefner said "Linda, you sing Country Music with a difference!"
An odd 1970 laugh-in type show featuring Frank Zappa, Nancy Sinatra, Donovan, Tommy Smothers and Linda. She sings an intense version of Long, Long Time (Bernie L on guitar)and Walking Down the Line. Obscure, rare stuff - linda is at her Hoop earring, Barefoot Best. It is the Murray Roman Show 1970 on YouTube.

Jan 3, 2013 at 2:44pm Cornish Pirate said: Just found an unknown Linda video from 1970. Not good quality though. It was said to be from a programme called 'Celebration' broadcast by KQED-TV from their studios in San Francisco on 30 Aug 1970, which also featured Grateful Dead and Boz Scaggs. However, someone commenting on the posting said there were two Celebration programmes broadcast in 1970, Linda and Boz Scaggs in one and Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Swamp Dogg in the other, so the above date may not be correct.
Linda sings three songs, She's A very Lovely Woman, Break My Mind and Long Long Time. The picture breaks up often and the audio wows and goes in and out of sync but on the plus side she is wearing her Hee-Haw dress. ;D
Usual, 'right click/Save As...' to download.

I had to use internet explorer via windows 7 to get the above video to play. Took forever to download on google chrome. Below is the link that showed up on explorer: (might just be my computer)

MORE TO COME From "Playboy After Dark", first broadcast April 7, 1970. Look closely and you'll see a young Lindsey Wagner in the audience. Linda Ronstadt - Will You Love Me Tomorrow (Johnny Cash Show - March 11, 1970) Linda appeared on Darin Invasion 1970 (TV special). Based on the reaction from the audience @2:22, he left the stage in middle of the song.HEE HAWOh gosh that isn't from 1988...this aired toward the end of it's second season on CBS in the early 1970s (the series had debuted as a summer program in June 1969 upon the cancellation of "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour"). Hee Haw left the air in September 1969 but returned to CBS in December 1969 to replace the canceled "Leslie Uggams Show". The actual air date for this episode was April 1, 1970...and at that time the program hadn't gone into first run syndication yet and it was still the property of CBS. Later, after the 1970-1971 season ended, CBS canceled the program upon the completion of it's third season of episodes but that fall it entered first-run syndication (airing on local affiliates of CBS, NBC, ABC) and it remained in first run syndication through the 1992-1993 season. the Hee Haw video was reworked here: Something Else - Show 21 - Newport, CASomething Else

Something Else is a 34-episode series of musical performances, filmed on location throughout the United States. The show's footage features an impressive array of musical guests from the worlds of rock, psychedelic and soul music.www.retrovideo.com/footage_library/something-else/ The Virginia Graham Show Season 1 Episode 37 Summary The Virginia Graham Show hosted by Virginia Graham with her machine-gun-like barrage of questions, quips, karate chops and interjections, she cuts through the amenities to get to the meat of her guests and topics. Few subjects were taboo and the show sometimes resembled a verbal slug-fest with no holds barred. Involvement and interaction was the key to the show. Virginia got involved with her guests, her guests got involved with each other, and they all got involved with both the in-studio and home audiences. Each show featured four or five guests selected from the entertainment world, the intellectual community and other prominent news-makers. Introduction of new variety talent and showcase spots for established entertainers who joined in the conversation once they had performed, was all part of the format. The competition was tough, as one lone female up against the likes of Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Steve Allen, Dick Cavett and David Frost. July 31, 1970 Aired Weekdays 7:30 PM Jul 31, 1970 on July 31, 1970 AIRED: 7/31/70 Virginia's guests are Bob Crane, Linda Ronstadt and Jane Howard.

Out Of Order 3 hours ago Thanks for the info. This type of information tends to get lost when you get recordings from people that don't label their stuff accurately.
Scribe Here is more information about this show from one of the musicians, John Beland. The group backing Linda was headed to become Swampwater which was Linda's "pre-Eagles" band who made a couple of albums of their own.
" We did this around the same time as the Big Sur Celebration show. I believe that the Isley Bros were on the show with us. Thats Eric White (mistakes and all) on bass, Stan Pratt on drums, Gib Guilbeau on Rhythm guitar and myself (John Beland) on lead and acoustic guitar. This was not yet Swampwater. Following this appearance we replaced Eric (who became our roadie) with Thad Maxwell. That is when we formed Swampwater. This was our 3rd gig together with Linda. Hope this clears up things. Cheers - John B www.johnbeland.com www.facebook.com/johnedwardbeland
Check John's sites out. He is still making some great music including a video gig with Ronstadt Review. If you like this type of music and from that era like so many of us Boomers you will like this group and video:
Thank you Out of Order for keeping this historically important (and fun) music alive.
I believe these guys (all or in part) were also backing Linda on the Mike Douglas Show which you recently posted.

I wonder where Out of Order found such clear copies? Let's hope they don't disappear. Yes, Linda was lip syncing on Hee Haw. It is exactly like the album version musicians and all. I think it was a requirement on some of those old tv shows. Linda rarely lip syncs and sounds as good in person or better than her recorded versions. She was wise to use only the best musicians in and out of the studio because her music holds up to this day.
