ADIOS
Ran away from home when I was seventeen To be with you On the California coast
Drinking margaritas all night in the old cantina Out on the California coast
Don't think that I'm ungrateful And don't look so morose Adios Adios
We never really made it baby But we came pretty close Adios adios
Going up north where the hills are winter green I have to leave you On the California coast
Going where the water's clear and the air is cleaner Than the California coast
Our dreams of endless summer Were just too grandiose Adios Adios
And I miss the blood red sunset But I miss you the most Adios adios Adios Adios Adios adios

thought I would start this thread here with one of my favorite singers
Glen Campbell’s last record “was therapeutic,” says daughter www.apnews.com/1d4601e6aceb459ea542761000b80828 BY KRISTIN M. HALLASSOCIATED PRESS Published 8:37 AM MST, June 15, 2017
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Glen Campbell’s last record, “Adios,” is a swan song for the ailing Grammy-winning performer and TV personality, but his daughter said the recording was also therapeutic for him as well.
Campbell, known for his hits such as “Wichita Lineman” and “Gentle on My Mind,” was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011 after signs of memory loss. His 2011 farewell tour was captured in a popular Oscar-nominated documentary called “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me,” which won a Grammy for its soundtrack.
But shortly after the tour ended in 2012, Campbell’s family knew he might never get another chance to record.
“We definitely were seeing a decline, so we wanted him to be able to do this, while he still could,” Ashley Campbell said. “So definitely we didn’t think there was going to be another album.”
The album, released Friday, features songs that Campbell has loved to sing, but never recorded, including songs made famous by Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt and Johnny Cash. His longtime banjo player Carl Jackson produced the album, which includes guest vocals from Willie Nelson, Vince Gill as well as his daughter, who is also a musician and singer.
“When we recorded it he could still sing these songs,” said Campbell. “And we could get him into the studio and he had so much joy being in the studio and working with Carl. So it was definitely, I think it was therapeutic for him as well.”
These days, the 81-year-old singer is in the late stages of Alzheimer’s and has aphasia, which means he cannot speak or understand speech, according to his daughter. But she said he is happy in a memory care facility in Nashville.
“He is doing so much better than a lot of other people in his position,” Campbell said. “Instead of being scared and confused all the time, he is just happy and loves being around people. And enjoys his desserts and all that. It’s nice to know that we have some kind of bright side in this dark situation.”
She said that she still plays music for her dad, even if he doesn’t always understand he’s listening to music.
“But sometimes if you sit there long enough or if he’s in the right head space, he will hear it and enjoy it,” Campbell said. “He will close his eyes and he can kind of feel it. He’ll tap his toes. Or start singing along in some other way. He won’t be singing the song you’re singing but he’ll realize you’re singing and he’ll try to sing with you. So it reaches him sometimes, so it’s definitely worth doing every time.” __ Online: www.glencampbell.com __ Follow Kristin M. Hall at Twitter.com/kmhall

Listen to Glen Campbell's Heartfelt Goodbye Song, 'Adiós' www.wideopencountry.com/glen-campbells-heartfelt-goodbye-song-adios/ By Jeremy Burchard | May 4, 2017
Hope you've got some Kleenex nearby. Glen Campbell's camp just shared a new song off his final project, aptly titled "Adiós." Though the country star is still here with us physically, his mental decline from Alzheimer's rendered him unfit to continue music.
But thankfully, Campbell approached the situation with dignity and class. He chose to record a bunch of music back in 2012 right after his farewell tour.
Now, you can hear one of the songs off the album, the heartfelt (and slightly heartbreaking) "Adiós." Linda Ronstadt took the song into the top 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart back in 1990.
"Don't think that I'm ungrateful," Campbell sings in his classic, smooth voice. "And don't look so morose. Adiós."

But according to songwriter Jimmy Web, "Adios" holds a dear place in both of their hearts that predates Ronstadt's version. He and Campbell used to play the song all the time.
"We played it in dressing rooms, hotels, we played it over at his house, we played it at my house," Webb tells Rolling Stone Country. "He always loved that song. I heard 'Adiós' this morning and my wife and I both broke down and cried all over this hotel room. It's the first time we ever heard it."
Longtime band member and Campbell's friend Carl Jackson produced the sessions that led to Adiós. "I stood right beside him on every line, printed out the lyrics in big print," Jackson says. "Sometimes we had to do a line at a time because with Alzheimer's, his memory of the lyrics, as we saw in the tour he had to use teleprompters, that went away pretty quick. But his melodies did not go away for a long time after his ability to remember actual songs. He would even remember what keys he did them in. I can't explain it."

Brian+Wilson+Brian+at+the+pianoA couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I was reading Simple Dreams by Linda Ronstadt. I have enjoyed the book and the behind the scenes stories that it contains. A great example of those stories is Linda’s description of working with Brian Wilson who I think is one of the great musical geniuses of our generation. Like all geniuses, Brian is a little eccentric and Linda captures that perfectly in the following story extracted from Simple Dreams……
When Peter Asher and I began to record the Cry Like a Rainbow album, our best collaboration, in my opinion. Jimmy (Webb) wrote an orchestral arrangement for me of his wistful song “Adios,” with Brian Wilson singing the complex backing harmonies. I had known Brian Wilson briefly in my Troubadour days, when he was separated for a time from his first wife. He was always sweet and friendly, and never pressed any romantic agenda. Several times I discovered him at my back door, studying a little pile of coins he held in his hand, which he said was ten or fifteen cents shy of the price for a bottle of grape juice. He said it was important for him to drink grape juice in order to solve some health problem that was troubling him. I would provide the remaining ten or fifteen cents, and we would climb into his huge convertible with the top always down, the back stuffed with a sizable accumulation of Brian’s dirty laundry. As a bachelor, he seemed to have difficulty coping with domestic arrangements, so I would suggest a trip to the Laundromat, where we would fill an entire row of machines. (I had a lot of quarters.) Afterward we would sit in my living room, drink the grape juice, and listen to my small collection of Phil Spector records. Brian really liked Phil Spector.
In the studio, under Brian’s direction, we recorded his harmony parts for “Adios” with five separate tracks of unison singing on each of the three parts, fifteen vocal tracks in all. He didn’t seem concerned if some of the tracks veered slightly out of tune, but took advantage of the slight “chorused” effect it created when he came back into the control room to mix the harmony tracks into the creamy vocal smoothness instantly recognizable as the Beach Boys.
Brian was making up the harmonies as he went along, but sometimes, when he was having difficulty figuring out a complicated section, he would scold himself and say that he needed to work for a time at the piano. However, when he sat down at the piano, he never played any part of “Adios,” but instead would play a boogie-woogie song, very loud in a different key. After a few minutes of this he would go back to the microphone and sing the parts perfectly, without a trace of hesitation.
Let’s listen to the results of that collaboration……
A great Jimmy Webb song, a beautiful vocal by Linda, and unbelievable harmonies from Brian…..it doesn’t get any better than this! If you are a Linda fan I encourage you to pickup Simple Dreams, you will really enjoy it.
