Who Is Jim Jordan? Narrated by Sean Patton | NowThisJim Jordan (Allegedly) Did Nothing As A Fellow Coach Molested Dozens Of His Students Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan has been in the news a lot lately for defending Donald Trump against those who accuse the president of (to quote the articles of impeachment) "doing some Donald Trump-style shit." After all, if Jordan knew that someone was doing something truly horrible, he would totally speak up, right? Uh, not according to his former students. Long story short, dude is basically the Joe Paterno of Congress.
Long story long: Jordan was working as an assistant teaching coach when Dr. Richard Strauss, a horrifyingly prolific pervert, was molesting wrestling students. Several students have come forward saying that they personally went to Jordan about the assaults, and he didn't seem terribly concerned. Not enough to do anything about it, anyway. One referee says he told Jordan and another coach about Strauss and they just said "Yeah, that's Strauss," like when you watch Seinfeld and go "Oh, that Kramer."
Jordan insists that he never heard about the abuse, but some of his students say he must have known, because everyone knew. We're not talking about a couple of awkward shower room elbow brushes here. An OSU investigation concluded that Strauss molested at least 177 students. Also, Jordan's locker room was right next to Strauss', and it's well-documented that Jordan spent a lot of time in the sauna. That's like saying you never heard a hurricane passing by. Multiple times a year. For nearly 10 years.
In an interview, Jordan appeared to change his "I'm just hearing about this now!" defense when he implied that the accusations about Strauss were nothing but "locker room talk."
Judd Legum ✔ @juddlegum Wow.
Jim Jordan changes his story, seems to acknowledge that he was aware that the team doctor was molesting wrestlers at Ohio State
"Conversations in a locker room are a lot different than allegations of abuse."

It takes real talent to say that with a straight face, or without spontaneously combusting out of sheer shame. OK, now we can sort of see why this guy is so keen on defending Trump.

[DiSabato] also said Jordan called him repeatedly in July 2018, after media outlets quoted his brother, Michael DiSabato, saying Strauss’ abuse was common knowledge to those surrounding the wrestling program, including Jordan.
“Jim Jordan called me crying, groveling… begging me to go against my brother…That’s the kind of cover-up that’s going on there,” he said.
“Are you guys going to do what you’re voted to do?” he told lawmakers later. “That’s the only reason I’m here.”

Jim Jordan explodes when asked to put on a mask, pivots to 'unmasking' of Michael Flynnwww.yahoo.com/news/jim-jordan-explodes-asked-put-204900940.html Kathryn Krawczyk The Week July 29, 2020, 1:49 PM
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has successfully twisted a public health concern into a conservative conspiracy theory — but not the one of the dozens of COVID-19 conspiracies one might expect.
During a Wednesday hearing with the country's four biggest technology companies, Jordan used his questioning time to claim Google tried to help Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Penn.) was up next, and started her questioning by saying she would pivot from "fringe conspiracy theories" to anti-trust questions. Chaos predictably ensued.
"We have the email, there is no fringe—" Jordan interrupted before committee chair Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) cut him off. "Put your mask on," Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) chimed in. Jordan then used Raskin's request to pivot to a favorite conspiracy: "You want to talk about masks? Why would the deputy secretary of the treasury unmask Michael Flynn's name?" theweek.com/speedreads/915667/republicans-are-arms-about-flynns-unmasking-reportedly-never-masked-first-place
Jordan's outburst came just hours after Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) tested positive for COVID-19 and then walked around the House office building knowing he had it. Jordan was also reminded, albeit more gently, to put on his mask during a Tuesday hearing with Attorney General William Barr. Gohmert was also at that hearing, and one of his aides — and other Republican staffers — have since anonymously complained about the lack of mask compliance among their congressmembers.

Jim Jordan Under Scrutiny for Nearly $3 Million in Unreported Campaign Fundswww.yahoo.com/news/jim-jordan-under-scrutiny-nearly-202028713.html Roger Sollenberger Wed, March 3, 2021, 1:20 PM
Campaign finance experts say that the errors are significant enough that, if the rising conservative star can’t offer a sound explanation, the FEC will likely refer the matter to its enforcement arm. Such a move would not be publicly disclosed.
“Jordan's campaign appears to have had systemic reporting problems over multiple years, and these amendments represent substantial shifts in the campaign's disclosed fundraising and spending,” Brendan Fischer, director of reform at the Campaign Legal Center, told the Daily Beast. “I suspect that the FEC will closely review discrepancies of such a significant amount.”
Brett Kappel, campaign finance attorney at Harmon Curran, said that the reports appear “so substantially incorrect” that the FEC may order an audit.
“The legal standard to trigger an FEC audit is high: whether filings meet the threshold for ‘substantial compliance’ with the law,” Kappel explained. “Jordan’s FEC reports were so substantially incorrect over such a long period of time that they may meet the standard.”
Jenna Grande, press secretary for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a D.C.-based nonprofit watchdog, said, “This is a very large amount of money in discrepancies. While there is still much to learn about this situation, Rep. Jordan’s campaign needs to provide a full accounting of what happened and why."
The campaign’s current explanation is incomplete and somewhat contradictory. For instance, it mentions spending errors but doesn’t explain significant errors in the campaign’s fundraising, which the FEC says was off by a total of $1,280,852.36—nearly half of it in the campaign’s July 2020 quarterly report, Kordik’s final filing. Some amendments show increases in receipts, and some show decreases.

The statement also doesn’t appear to account for the appearance of a $20,000 transfer to the Ohio Republican Party made in October 2018, according to one of the amended reports.

Ex-RNC Chair Michael Steele Blasts Jim Jordan On His Jan. 6 Trump Amnesiawww.yahoo.com/huffpost/ex-rnc-chair-michael-steele-014726837.html

Former chair of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele delivered a searing smackdown of Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-Ohio) claim that he can’t remember if he spoke to Donald Trump before, during or after violence erupted in the Capitol on Jan. 6. www.huffpost.com/news/topic/michael-steele www.huffpost.com/topic/jim-jordan www.huffpost.com/news/topic/donald-trump
“You know what time you called the president, and you know what you said,” an incredulous Steele snapped, referring to Jordan, on “The Breakdown” on Lincoln Project TV, a media project of the Republican-run anti-Trump group of which Steele is a member.
“You’re a grown-ass man,” Steele added. “Stop acting like 10-year-old kid who got caught masturbating by his momma. Stop it.”
.@jim_Jordan claims he doesn't remember if he spoke to Trump on January 6th. @michaelsteele doesn’t buy it.

Steele was referring to Jordan’s stumbling responses earlier this week when he admitted that he talked to Trump the day of the insurrection. But he was extremely fuzzy on details, and claimed he couldn’t recall exactly what was said, nor did he remember the timing. www.huffpost.com/entry/jim-jordan-trump-capitol-riot-jan-6_n_6100cc94e4b00fa7af7cfd09
When Taylor Popielarz of Spectrum News pressed Jordan Wednesday on exactly when he spoke to the president, Jordan responded: “I spoke with him that day ... after? I think after. I don’t know if I spoke with him in the morning or not. I just don’t know ... I don’t know when those conversations happened.” www.huffpost.com/entry/jim-jordan-jan-6-reporter_n_6101f317e4b0fd216c21ca7c
Steele shot back in the LPTV interview: “I can tell you the time, the place, the date of every conversation I’ve had with every president of this country, period, going back to Bill Clinton. I can tell you where I was; I can tell you what was said. This son of a bitch is sitting up there acting like, ‘Well, I don’t know if it was before, I don’t know if it was after. Oh lordy Jesus, I don’t remember. I gotta look at my notes.’”
