According to Michael Bang Petersen, a professor of political science at Aarhus University, although social media is a powerful tool in the hands of people prone toward political violence, misinformation shared online does not make people hostile. Instead, lies on social media serve to connect people who are already prone to political violence, both offline and online. This week, Brooke speaks with Petersen about the characteristics of people who share misinformation and why finding a solution to misinformation requires looking at data and being precise about the problem.
