Hobbs wasn't convicted of anything. No criminal charges were filed against her.
Adams - acting as her own lawyer in federal court - filed and won two lawsuits
The lawsuits were filed against the Arizona State Senate. Hobbs was not named as a defendant. Under federal law, the damages award was capped at $300,000.
Adding in back pay and lost benefits, the judge ruled Adams was entitled to $353,000 in damages.
Hobbs' opponents are now making false claims about "convictions," criminal charges, and millions of dollars in payments by taxpayers.
Here's what Hobbs' Republican opponent, Kari Lake, said on NewsMax recently:
"I think a lot of people don't realize she's a twice convicted racist."
This makes Kari Lake a liar and guilty of defamation. Hobbs should sue her.
And ignorant conservatives need to get a clue and take care of the endemic racism in their own party.
Fired Democratic aide wins $1 million verdict in racial bias suit against Arizona Senate

Talonya Adams is an African American attorney who was fired FOR CAUSE from her job as a policy adviser for the state Senate in 2015. Hobbs did not set her pay, nor her conditions of employment, nor the procedures to hire and fire staff. Republicans did. The court found there was a lack of sufficient procedure in place to document and escalate the causes that led to her termination, not that Secretary Hobbs intended to retaliate by firing her. Hobbs was not a defendant in Adams’s lawsuits and she bears no liability. Secretary Hobbs was merely a fact witness, whose testimony helped Adams win her case.
The courts found the defendant, the Arizona Senate, discriminated against Adams in pay and conditions of employment because of her sex, but not due to her race. Nowhere in the record is ANY evidence that Adams complained to decision-makers about disparate pay based on race, and the court found that the evidence concerning her complaint of sex-based pay disparities alone was sufficient to support the jury’s verdict.
Senate President Andy Biggs (R) allocated the staff budgets, and set the sexually-discriminatory pay, and fostered the discriminatory work culture that resulted in the injustice Adams suffered. Not Secretary Hobbs.
Secretary Hobbs was not a defendant in the lawsuits. Secretary Hobbs bears no liability for the compensation the jury awarded. Secretary Hobbs was merely a fact witness, one listed on Adams own witness list, one whose testimony helped her win her case.
Secretary Hobbs was very clear about the reasons she, and Senate Republican chief of staff Wendy Baldo, and Democratic chief of staff Jeff Winkler, all agreed that they needed to fire Adams:
Adams embarrassed herself, her colleague Ms. Lisette Flores, and the Democratic Caucus members and staff when she acted in a manner that was “belligerent, aggressive, and just unprofessional”, by “demeaning” Ms. Flores at a meeting in front of the entire caucus, because she got the job Adams wanted; [Katie Hobbs’ testimony pages 15-16];
Adams unprofessionally missed work (forcing staff to re-assign her unfinished assignments) without notifying any Members or her supervisor that she had to be absent due to a medical emergency of her adult son, and; [Katie Hobbs’ testimony, pages 20-21];
Adams unprofessionally complained to the entire Democratic Caucus leadership about her pay, despite them having no control of that, and was already told how to make her allegations known through proper channels. [Katie Hobbs’ testimony, pages 17-20].
