Trump suggests he could deport 11 million migrants if he doesn’t get border wall funding in veiled shutdown threat: ‘Be careful Nancy’The Independent The Independent 12 hours ago
Donald Trump has implied he could launch a “big push” to deport millions of illegal immigrants if he does not get $5.6bn funding for his border wall, in a veiled threat to Democrats over the US government shutdown.
As the partial shutdown – triggered by the president’s failure to agree with Democrats a government funding bill if it does not contain money for a wall – entered its 30th day, he warned speaker Nancy Pelosi to “be careful” after she and Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer rejected “compromises” he had offered to end the stalemate.
In a live televised address on Saturday, Mr Trump had pitched extending protections to some undocumented migrants in return for funding for a wall on the US-Mexico border.
Democrats quickly rejected the proposal as a “non-starter”, with Ms Pelosi dismissing it as “a compilation of several previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable”.
Responding in a flurry of tweets on Sunday, the president launched a personal attack on Ms Pelosi and accused her party of playing politics over the wall ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
He wrote: “Nancy Pelosi and some of the Democrats turned down my offer yesterday before I even got up to speak. They don’t see crime & drugs, they only see 2020 – which they are not going to win.
“Nancy Pelosi has behaved so irrationally & has gone so far to the left that she has now officially become a Radical Democrat. She is so petrified of the ‘lefties’ in her party that she has lost control.”
In a churlish aside, the president also told the long-serving California representative: “And by the way, clean up the streets in San Francisco, they are disgusting!”
In a further tweet, apparently aimed at conservatives such as media commentator Ann Coulter and Tom Fitton, president of the right-wing activist group Judicial Watch, who had criticised his offer of extended protections for some young migrants, Mr Trump insisted he was not offering an “amnesty” to people who entered the country illegally.
“No, amnesty is not a part of my offer, It is a 3 year extension of DACA [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals],” he wrote. “Amnesty will be used only on a much bigger deal, whether on immigration or something else.”
The president also said there would be “no big push to remove the 11,000,000 plus people who are here illegally”, before adding: “But be careful Nancy!”
Responding to Mr Trump’s posts, Ms Pelosi tweeted: “800,000 Americans are going without pay. Re-open the government, let workers get their paychecks and then we can discuss how we can come together to protect the border.”
Mr Trump also said he was still thinking about the House speaker’s suggestion that he postpone his State of the Union address, scheduled for 29 January.
In a letter to the president on Wednesday, Ms Pelosi warned the prolonged shutdown would compromise security arrangements for the event. She called for him to reschedule the speech, deliver it from the Oval Office, or issue it in written form.
Mr Trump responded by refusing use of a military plane for a congressional delegation, including Ms Pelosi, that was due to visit Afghanistan.
More than 800,000 federal government workers are going unpaid during the shutdown, which entered its 30th day on Sunday.
Mr Trump had offered to extend protections for young migrants brought to the US illegally and for those who arrived as refugees, providing Democrats agreed to sign off funding for the border wall.
Mr Schumer described the proposal as “hostage-taking”, but Republican Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell called it a fair compromise and said he would call a vote in congress this week.

White House Manhunt Reportedly Underway For Trump Schedule LeakerHuffPost Amy Russo,HuffPost 3 hours ago www.yahoo.com/news/white-house-manhunt-reportedly-underway-161808833.html
The hunt is on for President Donald Trump’s schedule leaker, Politico reported Friday.
According to officials who spoke with the outlet, the administration has begun searching for the staffer who revealed that the president has spent more than half his work schedule in unstructured “executive time,” an ill-defined period filled with news consumption, phone calls and other work.
Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney has given the search his stamp of approval, Politico noted, adding that he has already been irked by the seemingly endless flow of White House leaks.
Axios published Trump’s schedules last Sunday, making headlines with news of the president’s seemingly light workdays. Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders then jumped on the issue, attempting to clarify to the outlet that the loosely scheduled time was meant to give Trump the “creative environment” necessary to further his accomplishments.
“President Trump has a different leadership style than his predecessors and the results speak for themselves,” she said, adding that on average, much of his day is spent “in scheduled meetings, events, and calls.”

SNL’s Trump emergency declaration vs. the real thingTrump suggests networks should face ‘retribution’ for ‘hit jobs’ after SNL mocks presidentThe Independent Chris Riotta,The Independent 2 hours 28 minutes ago www.yahoo.com/news/trump-suggests-networks-face-retribution-163801722.html
Donald Trump attacked the media on Sunday as the “enemy of the people” and suggested networks like NBC should face “retribution” over “total Republican hit jobs”.
The president’s angry Twitter rant arrived after Saturday Night Live once again mocked his administration during its latest episode’s cold opening, featuring actor Alec Baldwin, who impersonated his Friday announcement declaring a national emergency from the White House Rose Garden.
“Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake News NBC!” Mr Trump wrote on Sunday morning. “Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows?”
“Very unfair and should be looked into,” he added. “This is the real Collusion!”
Mr Trump then posted a message seemingly capping off his frustrations, writing in all capital letters: “THE RIGGED AND CORRUPT MEDIA IS THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”
Saturday Night Live wasn’t the only place where the president’s national emergency declaration was the subject of scrutiny and major criticism, however.
Mr Trump’s decision to circumvent lawmakers in his efforts to fulfill a campaign promise and build a wall sprawling the US-Mexico border faced backlash from members of his own party, who called the move “a mistake”.
“I wish he wouldn’t have done it,” said Republican Senator Chuck Grassley.
Democrats also slammed the national emergency as “fake” and unnecessary. Progressive freshman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Texas Democrat Joaquin Castro announcing a new resolution that would rebuke the measure and could potentially stop the wall in its tracks if enough Republicans were to support that move, leading to a fool-proof majority.
Otherwise, the president was expected to veto any Democratic measures challenging his declaration.
As Mr Trump said on Friday, his national emergency can now be expected to face a lengthy and exhaustive legal battle. Three lawsuits have already been filed and Democratic attorneys general nationwide are also considering creating a coalition to file another federal suit.
On Sunday the president also touted his administration’s work on a “China Trade Deal,” claiming, “big progress being made on soooo many different fronts!”
He added, “Our Country has such fantastic potential for future growth and greatness on an even higher level!”Donald Trump slams 'Saturday Night Live' for mocking his national emergency Taryn Ryder 5 hours ago
President Trump speaks on border security, Feb. 15, 2019. (Photo: Alex Wong/Getty Images) There was one person who wasn’t pleased to see Alec Baldwin return to “Saturday Night Live” last night: President Trump.
After a few weeks away, Baldwin appeared as Trump in the show’s cold open mocking the president’s White House Rose Garden speech where he declared a national emergency in order to build his border wall. On Sunday morning, Trump tweeted, “Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake News NBC!” He also pondered how “networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution?”
In a follow-up tweet, Trump once again called the media “the enemy of the people.”
Baldwin replied on Twitter saying “Trump whines.”
On “SNL,” Baldwin’s nearly seven-minute faux press conference took aim at many of the president’s declarations.
“I’m here to declare a very urgent, important national emergency. This is a big one so I don’t want to waste any time. That’s why first I want to blow my own horn a little bit, OK?” Baldwin began before mocking Trump’s health exam and upcoming summit with North Korea.
“Let’s cut to the chase, folks: We need wall. OK? We have a tremendous amount of drugs flowing into this country from the southern border, or ‘the Brown Line,’ as many people asked me to call it,” Baldwin continued. “That’s why we need wall. Because wall works. Wall makes safe. You don’t have to be smart to understand that; in fact, it’s even easier to understand if you’re not smart. You all see why I need to fake this national emergency, right? I have to because I want to. It’s really simple.”
Trump told reporters Friday “I could do the wall over a longer period of time. I didn’t need to do this, but I’d rather do it much faster.”
Baldwin wrapped up the sketch by taking questions from the press. He poked fun at Trump’s tiff with CNN’s Jim Acosta, played by Kyle Mooney, who said statistics show that undocumented immigrants commit less crime than native-born Americans.
“Oh my God, Jim, those numbers are faker than this emergency,” Baldwin quipped. “In conclusion, this is a total emergency, a five-alarm blaze, which means I have to go to Mar-a-Lago and play some golf.”

Alec Baldwin: Trump's 'SNL' Attack May Be 'A Threat To My Safety' Amy Russo 7 hours ago
Alec Baldwin hit back at President Donald Trump’s rage-tweet “Saturday Night Live” attack, asking whether the president’s “ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE” smear constitutes “a threat to my safety and that of my family.”
The actor known for portraying Trump on the comedy show raised the question Sunday night.
Baldwin’s question followed a Trump tweet blasting “SNL” as “tired” and NBC as “Fake News.”
“Very unfair and should be looked into,” Trump wrote. “This is the real Collusion!”
He added: “THE RIGGED AND CORRUPT MEDIA IS THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”
Baldwin once again played the president on Saturday, mocking Trump’s national emergency declaration to gain access to billions in funding for construction of his southern border wall.
“We have a tremendous amount of drugs flowing into this country from the southern border, or the brown line as many people have asked me not to call it,” the actor joked during his routine. “That’s why we need wall, because wall works. Wall makes safe.”

Trump urges Venezuelan military to abandon Maduro or 'lose everything'Reuters By Steve Holland,Reuters 4 hours ago By Steve Holland
MIAMI (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday warned members of Venezuela's military who remain loyal to socialist President Nicolas Maduro that they are risking their future and their lives and urged them to allow humanitarian aid into the country.
Speaking to a cheering crowd mostly of Venezuelan and Cuban immigrants in Miami, Trump said if the Venezuelan military continues supporting Maduro, "you will find no safe harbor, no easy exit and no way out. You’ll lose everything.”
Trump offered strong backing for Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido, whom the United States, many of Venezuela's neighbors and most Western countries have recognized as interim president of Venezuela.
But Maduro, who won a second term last year in an election that critics denounced as a sham, retains the backing of Russia and China and control of Venezuelan state institutions, including the security services.
Trump cautioned Venezuelan armed forces not to harm Guaido or other opposition politicians, urged them to accept the National Assembly leader's offer of amnesty and demanded that they allow in food, medicine and other supplies.
The United States has sent tons of aid that is being stockpiled on Colombia's border with Venezuela, but Maduro has refused to let it in.
Guaido, who invoked constitutional provisions to declare himself the country's leader last month, has said that aid will enter Venezuela from neighboring countries by land and sea on Saturday.
If the opposition does not manage to bring it in then, it will try on following days, he said on Monday.
Maduro calls the aid a U.S.-orchestrated show and denies any crisis despite many Venezuelans' scant access to food and medicine.
“We seek a peaceful transition of power but all options are open," Trump said. It was a further hint of Trump's repeated insistence that military options remain on the table, though most Latin America experts believe such action is unlikely. The United States has had direct communications with members of Venezuela's military urging them to abandon Maduro, a senior White House official told Reuters this month. Trump's aides have openly predicted more defections.
But so far few military officers have turned against Maduro.
A source in Washington close to the opposition expressed doubts whether the Trump administration has laid enough groundwork to spur a wider mutiny in the ranks, where many officers are suspected of benefiting from corruption and drug trafficking.
Trump used his speech at Florida International University to deliver a full-throated condemnation of socialism, saying it was "dying" across the Western Hemisphere, and branded Maduro a "puppet" of communist-ruled Cuba.
Trump wants to boost support among Florida's Hispanic voters as he looks ahead to his re-election campaign in 2020, when Florida is again expected to be an important swing state.

Really - Is this the same guy that spread the Obama birth certificate stories and claimed Ted Cruz's father was part of the JFK assassination? Standards for the truth should apply to everyone. If spreading false narratives was law he would be left voicelessTrump sends memo to TV producers pressuring them not to book people who said there was evidence of Russia collusionThe Independent Tom Embury-Dennis,The Independent 13 hours ago
Trump news: House fails to override president's veto, as impeachment vote numbers are under 'consideration' Donald Trump’s team is sending letters to TV producers demanding they reconsider booking guests they perceive lied about Robert Mueller’s investigation.
The memo was sent on Monday to a number of networks, including MSNBC, CNN and NBC, by Mr Trump’s 2020 campaign communications chief Tim Murtaugh, under the headline, “Credibility of Certain Guests”, according to a copy obtained by Axios.
The document highlighted the conclusion reached by special counsel Mr Mueller that Mr Trump did not conspire with Russia to meddle in the 2016 election, and the decision by attorney general William Barr there was insufficient evidence to prosecute the president for obstruction of justice.
“The only way to interpret these conclusions is as a total and complete vindication of President Trump,” Mr Murtaugh argued.
“The issuance of these definitive findings comes after two years of Democrat leaders and others lying to the American people by vigorously and repeatedly claiming there was evidence of collusion. They made many of these false claims, without evidence, on your airwaves.”
In fact, members of Congress and the public remain in the dark as to whether Mr Mueller’s findings were definitive. The full report has yet to be made public, and only a handful of quotes were used to support Mr Barr’s conclusions in his four-page letter.
On obstruction, Mr Mueller conspicuously refused to rule either way, and was quoted by Mr Barr as saying in his report that although he “does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it does not exonerate him”.
In the memo, Mr Murtaugh singled out six guests who he claimed made “outlandish, false claims” about the probe over the last 18 months: Congressional democrats Richard Blumenthal, Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler and Eric Swalwell; Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez; and former CIA director John Brennan.
The memo claims those who made “outrageous and unsupported” claims about the president is “not limited” to the six highlighted critics, and asks networks to reconsider booking them in future.

“At this point, there must be introspection from the media who facilitated the reckless statements and a serious evaluation of how such guests are considered and handled in the future.”
But Mr Swalwell hit back, tweeting: “The only person who has been caught lying about Russia is Donald Trump. If he thinks I’ve made a false statement, he can sue me. And I’ll beat him in court.”
The memo was sent the same day Mr Trump, addressing the Mueller report, accused “a lot of people” of doing “some very, very evil things” and “treasonous things”, and promised ominously they would “certainly be looked at”.
Appearing on Fox News, Mr Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr echoed his father, calling for investigations into people he believed were responsible for what he called the “greatest farce in our democracy”.
Sarah Sanders, Mr Trump's White House press secretary, later tweeted out a mock chart inviting supporters to vote for which of the "Trump haters" prominent in US media were "most embarrassingly wrong".
/photo/1
Despite Republican triumphalism over Mr Barr’s letter, many in the party appear keen to keep the full report away from Congress and the public.
Though Mr Trump said it “wouldn’t bother me at all” if the document was released, Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell on Monday blocked a Democratic resolution to do so. Mr McConnell said the Justice Department should not be rushed.

President Trump confirmed Friday that the White House is considering a plan to transport detained immigrants to “sanctuary cities” and releasing them there as a way to punish his political enemies.
Late Thursday night, the Washington Post published a report about the proposal. A White House official downplayed the story, telling the Post in a statement, “This was just a suggestion that was floated and rejected, which ended any further discussion.”
A day later Trump said he was giving “strong considerations” to the plan.
“Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities,” said Trump Friday afternoon in a series of tweets. “Only The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy — so this should make them very happy!”
According to the Post’s report, May Davis, deputy assistant to the president and White House policy coordinator, wrote to immigration officials in November asking about the viability of transporting migrants arrested at the border to cities that generally did not cooperate with federal immigration enforcements.
“The idea has been raised by 1-2 principals that, if we are unable to build sufficient temporary housing, that caravan members be bussed to small- and mid-sized sanctuary cities,” Davis wrote. “There is NOT a White House decision on this.”
Immigrations and Custom Enforcement deputy director Matthew Albence replied that the idea “would create an unnecessary operational burden” and added, “Not sure how paying to transport aliens to another location to release them — when they can be released on the spot — is a justified expenditure. Not to mention the liability should there be an accident along the way.”
The White House broached the subject again in February, shortly after the federal government shutdown caused by the Trump administration’s insistence on getting funding for border security, including a wall.
“It was retaliation, to show them, ‘Your lack of cooperation has impacts,’” a Department of Homeland Security official told the Post. “I think they thought it would put pressure on those communities to understand, I guess, a different perspective on why you need more immigration money for detention beds.”
The term "sanctuary city" refers to localities where officials generally do not inform federal immigrant agencies about undocumented immigrants who come to their attention. The intent is humanitarian and also to encourage immigrants to cooperate with police and other government agencies without fear of deportation.
Those areas have been a target since the early days of the Trump administration, when he signed an executive order attempting to deny funding to jurisdictions that did not cooperate with federal immigration officials. The order was blocked by a federal judge.
It is an article of faith with Trump that immigrants bring crime and disease to the United States. But studies have found that sanctuary cities have either lower or equal crime rates to non-sanctuary cities. A study of Texas in 2015 found that crime rates among immigrants were lower than among native-born citizens.
House Speaker’s Nancy Pelosi’s district in San Francisco was one of the areas considered as a release point for immigrants detained at the border.
“The extent of this administration’s cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated,” said Pelosi spokeswoman Ashley Etienne in a statement to the Post. “Using human beings — including little children — as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable.”

Trump is going to do for American wine producers what he's done for American soy farmers.Trump renews threat against French wineAFP AFP 7 hours ago www.yahoo.com/news/trump-vows-something-eu-wine-duties-184601623.html

Washington (AFP) - US President Donald Trump on Monday lashed out at France for unfair tariffs on "great" American wine.
Trump, who famously does not drink alcohol, said he would work to open the European market, again accusing France of creating unfair trade barriers to US wine exports.
"France charges us a lot for the wine and yet we charge them very little for French wine," Trump said on CNBC.
US producers complain that French wines get to American shelves "for nothing," he said, adding "it's not fair and we'll do something about it."
"We have great wine, too."
Washington and Brussels are preparing to begin negotiations on a trade deal to resolve a battle Trump began last year by putting tariffs on steel and aluminum. But EU officials have said repeatedly they will not discuss agriculture.
In a Twitter outburst late last year, Trump likewise complained about wine trade.
European Union import duties on wine are higher than US tariffs on European wines, including those from France, but EU consumers buy less of the American product. France is a major wine producer but as part of the 28-member block does not set its own trade policy or tariffs.
Depending on the type and alcohol content, imported wine faces US duties of 5.3 cents to 12.7 cents a bottle, according to the US International Trade Commission. Sparkling wines are taxed a higher rate of about 14.9 cents a bottle.
But US wines shipped to the EU face duties of 11 to 29 cents a bottle, according to the Wine Institute, a trade body promoting American exports.
Still, between 2007 and 2018, French customs figures show, US exports to France tripled and Europe was by far the largest export destination for American wines.
In 2018, French exports of wine and spirits to the United States grew 4.6 percent to $3.6 billion (3.2 billion euros), according to industry data, making the United States the most valuable market for French exports.

This is a bad situation because we have a chicken shit party afraid to tell a crybully president that he is out of line to the point of impeachment. Who knows what else he will do? Or maybe they want him impeached? If given the chance would a number of Senators side with Democrats to uphold an impeachment from the House? Stay tuned.Scaramucci says Trump aides are scared to confront him over tweets Casey Darnell 1 hour 13 minutes ago www.yahoo.com/news/skullduggery-anthony-scaramucci-185402832.html
Cabinet members and White House staffers are privately concerned about President Trump’s racially divisive tweets but are afraid to confront him, according to Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House communications director, in an interview for the Yahoo News “Skullduggery” podcast.
Scaramucci said Trump needed to hear those points of view.
“If the president is now surrounded by people that are not going to tell him the truth, and they’re gonna confirm his biases, which may not be correct, that’s a recipe for disaster,” Scaramucci said. He called Republicans who won’t speak out against Trump’s tweets “fraidy cats.”
Democratic lawmakers have rebuked Trump for tweets telling four congresswomen of color to “go back” to their countries and describing Baltimore as a vermin-infested city unfit for people to live in. While Democrats forcefully called the statements racist, Republican leaders have largely been silent.
Scaramucci served a tumultuous 11 days as communications director in July 2017. Trump fired him after an expletive-laden interview with the New Yorker in which Scaramucci criticized other members of the Trump administration. Despite his unpleasant exit, he remains connected to members of the administration. He said he’s “shocked” that more Republicans haven’t spoken out.
“They know that it’s not the right thing,” he said. “The president likes to double down on stuff and he never likes to apologize, but down deep, he’s got to know too because he’s really not a racist.”
In 2019, the country should not be debating whether the “leader of the free world” is racist, Scaramucci said. He suggested that Trump should change his choice of words to avoid accusations of racism.
Scaramucci agrees with Trump’s assessment of Baltimore. He doesn’t see the tweets as racist but said he understands why people are upset about them. Trump first tweeted about Baltimore on Saturday in an attack on Rep. Elijah Cummings, who represents a majority-black district covering half of the city. Cummings has been a sharp critic of the Trump administration’s treatment of migrant children at the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump tweeted Saturday that Cummings’s district is “FAR WORSE and more dangerous” than conditions at the border. The president continued his attacks throughout the week and joked on Friday about a recent break-in at the congressman’s home.
“These inner cities, which have been controlled by the left for 40 or 50 years, they’re not working,” Scaramucci said. “The educational system is flawed. The gun violence is through the roof. The rat infestation, all that sort of stuff is prevalent.”
He added: “It’s not racist to say that objectively and look at it for what it is.”
