Distinct Chronotypes
Long-held conventional wisdom says that there are only these three chronotypes. My clinical experience has led me to a different conclusion. I have come to recognize a fourth chronotype, one that’s typically overlooked and often misunderstood: the restless sleeper, or the insomniac.
I have created four archetypes (using fellow mammals, not birds), to represent these four distinct chronotypes. They are: •Lions are morning types. •Bears are middle of the road types. •Wolves are nighttime types. •Dolphins are difficult sleepers.

Understanding your Bio-Time for Optimal Sleep
Just going to bed, “when I’m tired’” may not be the best idea. Instead, consider going to bed based on your bio-time! There are two “rhythms” that will affect your ability to fall asleep, and I’ll go over each of them in detail, showing you how to calculate your ideal bedtime for your specific chronotype and how to deal with anxiety or insomnia as it affects your sleep.
The Calculated Rhythm
For this rhythm, you’ll use my Bedtime Calculator ™ to determine when you should go to bed. To get this bedtime calculation, I take the number of cycles based on typical chronotypes, and I subtract it from appropriate Chronotype wake-up times.
If the average sleep cycle is 90 min long (for most chronotypes) let’s look at each chronotype for the number of average cycles. It appears to fall into two categories: Lions and Bears tend to get five cycles, while Wolves and Dolphins tend to get four cycles. We can now do our calculation:
Lions: Usually 5 cycles x 90 min = 450 min + 20 min to fall asleep = 470 min Bears: Usually 5 cycles x 90 min = 450 min + 20 min to fall asleep = 470 min
Bio-Time Bedtime for Lions and Bears: Lions: up at 6:00am – 470 min = 10:10 pm Bears: up at 7:00am – 470 min = 11:10 pm
Wolves: Usually 4 cycles x 90 min = 360 min + 40 min to fall asleep = 400 min Dolphins: Usually 4 cycles x 90 min = 360 min + 40 min to fall asleep = 400 min
Bio-Time Bedtime for Wolves and Dolphins: Wolves: up at 7:00am – 400 min = 12:00 am Dolphins: up at 6:30am – 400 min = 11:50 pm
The Anxiety/ Insomnia Rhythm
This rhythm is when you get stuck in a cycle of worrying that you’re not getting enough sleep, which causes you to stay awake! This is most common in my Dolphins, as they tend to be self-diagnosed as insomniacs or just poor sleepers. If this is you, then you may want to explore a worry journal. This might include dedicating 30 minutes of your evening to writing out your worries, stresses, and problems you’ve been thinking about, as well as ways to solve or address them. Once everything is written down, close the journal and make a concerted effort to not think about these things until the following day. Sometimes it just takes that release of the information to clear your mind and get you ready for rest.
Keeping in mind, these two important rhythms are critical to understanding what your ideal bedtime and wake time is. Keeping these times consistent is another important step to seeing the benefits of utilizing these time sleep and wake times.

Lucid dreaming techniques, Stephen LaBerge
Stephen LaBerge (born 1947) is an American psychophysiologist specializing in the scientific study of lucid dreaming. In 1967 he received his Bachelor's Degree in mathematics. He began researching lucid dreaming for his Ph.D. in Psychophysiology at Stanford University, which he received in 1980. He developed techniques to enable himself and other researchers to enter a lucid dream state at will, most notably the MILD technique (mnemonic induction of lucid dreams), which was used in many forms of dream experimentation. In 1987, he founded The Lucidity Institute, an organization that promotes research into lucid dreaming, as well as running courses for the general public on how to achieve a lucid dream.
In the early 1980s, news of LaBerge's research using the technique of signalling to a collaborator monitoring his EEG with agreed-upon eye movements during REM, helped to popularise lucid dreaming in the American media.

also: drink at least 20 oz of water upon rising in the morning AND if you can get 15 minutes of sunshine that first hour after rising you will get the much needed vitamin D3 necessary to stay healthy. Being well hydrated is extremely important to start the day.

Double dipping: the new challenge for health and safety Fred Kavalier
The pervasive influence of evidence based medicine is about to invade tapas bars and cocktail parties.
Scientists from Clemson University in South Carolina have discovered that double dipping, the practice of dipping a single tortilla chip into the guacamole more than once, is a good way to transfer bacteria from one person to another.
Double dipping first came to prominence in the 1990s in the US television series Seinfeld. A character in the series is confronted with the accusation, “Did you just double dip that chip?” after he was spotted dipping the same chip twice. Timmy, the accuser, then says, “That’s like putting your whole mouth right in the dip.”
Paul Dawson, a food microbiologist at Clemson University, decided to test the hypothesis that double dipping might be a true microbiological or health hazard. He encouraged a group of students to design an experiment to see whether bacteria were transferred from mouth to dip during the cracker’s second visit to the dip. The results have been accepted for publication in the Journal of Food Safety.
The students used wheat crackers with six different test dips. Three of the dips were sterile water with varying degrees of acidity. The other dips were salsa, cheese dip, and chocolate syrup.
The participants took a bite of the cracker and then dipped it for three seconds into a tablespoon of test dip. This was repeated up to six times, each time with a new cracker.
The results were definitive: three to six immersions of the cracker managed to transfer about 10 000 bacteria from the mouth to the dip. The researchers estimate that sporadic double dipping at a real life party would, on average, transfer 50 to 100 bacteria from person to person per bite, depending on the size of the bowls and the consistency of the dips.
Some dips seem to be riskier than others. Salsa allowed more bacteria to be transferred than the cheese dip or chocolate sauce.
Peter Mehlman, the Seinfeld writer responsible for the original double dipping episode, told the New York Times writer Harold McGee (www.nytimes.com/2008/01/30/dining/30curious.html) that he had some sympathy with the double dipper. “We get exposed to germs in a thousand different ways,” he said. “Besides, I thought the dip was enough to kill anything. It was probably one of those ’60s style dips with artificial dried onion soup.”

I guess it is illegal to say any product will cure anything but the following product has had good results with skin cancer. Curaderm.
There is another product that is used for skin cancer types of problems used for animals. It is a sulfur product. I have used it on cats in my cat rescue. White cats are especially sensitive to the sun. This ointment takes care of it nicely. It is Pierce's All Purpose NU-STOCK. It is available online but I just got it at my local Feed & Tack store. I have also used it on my own actinic keratosis (pre-skin cancer) spots and it worked like a charm.

toxic plant proteinJust a word to the wise. AVOID THE SO CALLED "CLEAN" PROTEIN POWDER MADE FROM PLANTS ONLY. I bought a container from Costco thinking it would be good for me rather than WHEY which is industrial waste left over from making dairy products. So I mixed in a little with my regular protein powder as a gradual thing. Then one day I went FULL PLANT PROTEIN and I just about blew out my GALL BLADDER. I did not want to lose it so I tried several home remedies including a gall bladder and liver cleanse. Fortunately that worked but upon researching my problem and that particular type of protein powder I found story after story JUST LIKE MINE. At this time I can't recommend any protein powder but I have learned a lot! And this particular powder is supposed to be ORGANIC which means not genetically modified in any way. Imagine how much worse it would have been if it had been modified! I think the reason it got my gall bladder first is because that may be a weakness in my body as my mom and some siblings have had theirs removed. It could show up as a liver problem in others depending on their body. STAY AWAY. This is disturbing but not surprising considering the amount of ROUNDUP that is found in everyone these days. The liver is our filter and it is overwhelmed. Consider finding a good liver and gall bladder cleanse and do it regularly. Avoid processed foods, drink lots of good water, get your basic 90+ vitamins and minerals daily and if you can afford it eat organic.

Mortality rates for liver cancer patients are growing.
According to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics, death rates from this cancer increased 43% from 2000 to 2016. This increase in liver cancer deaths is particularly noteworthy, as overall mortality rates for all types of cancer have declined.
The increased mortality rates were seen amongst nearly all groups, with the exception of Asians and Pacific Islanders, who saw a decrease in deaths from liver cancer. Men are generally more likely to develop liver cancer and the report found that the death rate of liver cancer for men was 2 to 2.5 times higher than it was for women. Nevertheless, both men and women saw increases in mortality rates in the period studied.
The increase means that more people are developing liver cancer rather than the cancer becoming more deadly. Liver cancer typically develops due to underlying liver diseases. Dr. Farhad Islami, the scientific director of cancer surveillance at the American Cancer Society, explained to CNN that more than 70% of liver cancer cases can be attributed to risk factors like obesity, smoking, excess alcohol consumption, and hepatitis B and C infection.
Islami suggests that one of the possible explanations for an increase in liver cancer is due to the fact that blood transfusions and organ transplants were not screened for hepatitis C until 1992. Once someone is infected with hepatitis C, it can take years for them to develop liver cancer, Islami explained to CNN.
Despite the variation in liver cancer rates between men and women, survival rates are the same—like most cancers, the sooner it’s caught, the higher the survival rate. But liver cancer is causing more deaths than before. It was the ninth leading cause of cancer death in 2000, rising to sixth in 2016.

The Health Benefits of Being Aware of Your Thoughts

We can compare our thought patterns to the waves of the sea. We all desire our flow of consciousness to resemble the calm tranquil waters of the Mediterranean on a beautiful summers day, but more often than not, our thoughts are turbulent and boisterous like stormy seas. Life’s challenges make it difficult to get a hold of the critical chatter that enters our minds. Many who have come to appreciate the dangers of allowing negative thoughts to dominate one’s mind have found that, with effort, we can modulate our mood.
Avoid Mr. Worry
Most of us would avoid an individual who is notorious for persistent negativity. Yet at times we may allow “Mr. Worry” to enter our minds and even make a permanent home. It’s up to us to be cognizant of our thoughts and say goodbye to “Mr. Worry” by filling that void with positive and peaceful emotions which will ultimately have a good effect on our health and well-being.
At the Budwig Center, we find that many of our patients are troubled by negative emotions which are having a greater impact on their health than they realized. This is why a key component of the Budwig Programs are the various emotional therapies that we offer.
Build A Foundation of Positivity
Positive thoughts need positive stimuli to thrive. Our daily habits, the people we surround ourselves with and the experiences we have all in many ways dictate the state of our consciousness. So, stop and contemplate on the following 10 suggestions and see if you can incorporate any or all of them into your life:
1. Surround yourself with others who are happy. If you spend time with angry, depressed or sad people, their negativity will transfer to you. But if you’re around people who are happy, you will absorb their positive energy. You’ll also learn about their habits and learn to react the way they do when something bad happens. Slowly weed out the negative influences in your life and replace them with positive ones. 2. Count your blessings. When something bad happens to you, try not to focus on it. Instead, take a minute to count your blessings. Everyone has good things in their life, whether it is a good family, loved ones etc. 3. Gratitude sessions. Along those lines, it is a good practice to have a daily gratitude session. Think about what you have to be thankful for, and silently express gratitude to those who have done something good for you in some way. If possible, take the time to call, text or email them to thank them. 4. Think Solutions. Instead of thinking about a problem, move on to the next step: how to solve it. Instead of saying “Oh, this is so hard,” or “Oh, I can’t seem to do this,” ask yourself, “what’s the solution?” If you develop solution-oriented thinking, you’ll be much happier. 5. Accept things. We are often unaware of it, but we usually want things, people or ourselves to change. And that’s a sure way to lead to unhappiness because we cannot control the world. We have to accept things as they are. Try to understand them, even love them. Including and most especially yourself. Accept who you are, allow yourself to be you, try to understand and love yourself. Then do the same with others in your life. 6. Take time to savor life. Instead of rushing from one thing to another, resolve to have less to do each day, fewer appointments and fewer tasks. Then do each thing slowly, with mindfulness and ease, try to be present, savor the moment. And truly enjoy whatever it is you do, from talking to eating to walking to just sitting. 7. Laugh. Just the simple act of laughing can make you happier. Watch a funny movie, tell jokes, read a book by Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett, go to humor sites on the Internet. And laugh your head off. 8. Spend time doing something you love. Make room in your life by eliminating some of the commitments you don’t really like doing and replace them with something you truly love. 9. Show little acts of kindness. Each day, try to be kind to others in little ways, opening doors, smiling, giving up your place in a line. Found a good bottle of wine? Then buy an extra bottle and give it to someone. 10. Exercise. Just a short walk or run could lift your spirits and reduce stress. Nothing difficult. Just get outside and move.
