Trump Defends His Golf Habit In Angry Tweet At London MayorHuffPost Sara Boboltz,HuffPost 9 hours ago www.yahoo.com/news/trump-golf-sadiq-khan-dorian-162909279.html
President Donald Trump lashed out at London Mayor Sadiq Khan with a pair of Tuesday morning tweets defending his golf habit after the mayor criticized him for hitting the links as Hurricane Dorian headed for the U.S. Southeast coastline.
Trump on Friday suggested he would spend all of the next day monitoring the storm at Camp David. Instead, he spent hours playing golf at his private club in Virginia. He returned to the golf course on Monday for another game.
“The incompetent Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was bothered that I played a very fast round of golf yesterday,” Trump wrote Tuesday, after first misspelling the mayor’s first and last names. The two men have clashed repeatedly since Trump took office in 2016 and proposed banning Muslims from entering the United States; Khan is London’s first Muslim mayor.
In his tweets, Trump misleadingly compared his golfing to the ways other politicians unwind, such as by exercise or travel.
“Me, I run through one of my courses (very inexpensive). President Obama would fly to Hawaii,” Trump wrote.
His claim that his presidential golf trips aren’t costly is also wrong. Trump has already cost American taxpayers more than $110 million for golf getaways since his January 2017 inauguration, according to HuffPost’s analysis. That’s more than the travel expenses former President Barack Obama accrued over eight years, a conservative group estimated.
Trump also encouraged Vice President Mike Pence to stay at his luxury golf club in Ireland. Pence took him up on it, even though his meetings with Irish leaders are in Dublin, on the opposite side of the country.
Many critics say that by spending so many taxpayer dollars on his own properties, Trump is violating the Constitution’s emoluments clause prohibiting presidents from profiting off their role in the Oval Office.
Trump had planned to join other world leaders in Poland over the weekend to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II. He said Hurricane Dorian ― which has devastated the Bahamas ― prompted him to cancel.
Speaking to reporters from the event in Poland, Khan noted sarcastically that Trump was “clearly busy dealing with a hurricane out on the golf course.”
The comment apparently rankled Trump, who does not often address criticisms of his golfing. According to CNN’s count, the president has so far spent 227 days of his presidency at one of his golf clubs.
Khan, Trump said, “should focus on ’knife crime,′ which is totally out of control in London.”
“He is a terrible mayor who should stay out of our business!” the president fumed.
A White House spokesperson said over the weekend that Trump was receiving hourly updates on Hurricane Dorian, which has left at least five dead in the Caribbean.
Despite this, the president incorrectly warned Alabamians on Monday to prepare for the hurricane to hit their state and doubled down on the idea when challenged ― even after officials issued a correction stating that Alabama wasn’t threatened.
Dorian has weakened from a Category 5 to a Category 2 hurricane and was still approaching Florida on Tuesday.

CNN Nails Hypocrisy Of Trump’s Attacks On Obama's Golfing Lee Moran,HuffPost 4 hours ago www.yahoo.com/news/cnn-supercut-donald-trump-obama-golf-101843201.html
President Donald Trump’s historic attacks on former President Barack Obama’s golfing are coming back to bite him, once again.
Trump faced criticism over Labor Day weekend for apparently monitoring Hurricane Dorian from his golf course in Virginia. The total cost of his golf trips during his presidency has now topped $110 million, according to HuffPost’s analysis.
On Tuesday, CNN’s “New Day” aired a supercut featuring a selection of times Trump disparaged Obama in during his campaign in 2015 and 2016 for getting out on the links ― while also claiming he’d be too busy to play golf if he won the election.

I want a job where I get 150 vacation days a year and you can tell the boss you're "working" while you play golf. Also, I want to be able to tweet and watch TV all day during my "executive time". We should not have to pay for any travel, lodging, food, golfing or entertainment that has anything to do with trump property. The American people should sue the president for reimbursement of any money his businesses received from the government. And since he can sue someone as a sitting president, then we can sue him as a sitting president.Donald Trump's "Inexpensive" Golf Habit Could Cost America $340 MillionEsquire Tom Nicholson,Esquire 12 hours ago www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/donald-trumps-inexpensive-golf-habit-103800138.html

From Esquire
What with everything that's been going on over the last three years or so - Brexit, the Mueller enquiry, climate change continuing to kick off, liberal democracy at large falling over and going on fire - Donald Trump's dedication to golfing has been a comforting constant. He's been golfing 227 separate times since his inauguration.
The approach and landfall of Hurricane Dorian saw Trump hacking his way around one of his courses in Virginia at the weekend, but he defended his "inexpensive" hobby from accusations that he should probably have at least looked like he was working, and that new estimates from Trumpgolfcount.com say his golfing has cost the taxpayer $109 million so far.
If he carries on at this rate through a second term, that'd mean roughly $340 million down the toilet over his time in office, with most of the costs racked up from flying Air Force One all over the place.
"The incompetent Mayor of London, Sadique Kahn [sic], was bothered that I played a very fast round of golf yesterday," Trump tweeted, before deleting and reposting with the correct spelling of Khan's name. "Many Pols exercise for hours, or travel for weeks. Me, I run through one of my courses (very inexpensive). President Obama would fly to Hawaii."
"He's clearly busy dealing with a hurricane out on the golf course," Khan told Politico in Warsaw, where he'd headed for the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the start of World War Two. Trump sent Vice-President Mike Pence instead, and hit the golf course.
Khan called Trump "a guy who amplifies racist tweets; amplifies the tweets of fascists; says things that are deeply objectionable."
"If I don't stand up and call that out I think I’m doing a disservice to Londoners who chose me as their mayor," he continued.
Leaving aside the actual fitness value of walking slowly around some gently rolling parkland for a couple of hours, Trump's assertion that his golfing is "very inexpensive" is an uncharacteristically subtle brag about how fast he gets round the course isn't it?

DECEMBER 31, 2019 BY BETSY KLEIN CNN: Trump spent 1 of every 5 days in 2019 at a golf club The President has spent at least 252 days at a Trump golf club and 333 days at a Trump property since taking office. www.newsandguts.com/link/cnn-trump-spent-1-of-every-5-days-in-2019-at-a-golf-club/West Palm Beach, Florida (CNN)How has President Donald Trump spent his Christmas vacation? Working, he says, but also on the golf course.
On Tuesday, Trump closed out the year with a visit to his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach for the 12th time during his Florida vacation. According to CNN's tally, he has spent at least 252 days at a Trump golf club and 333 days at a Trump property as President.
This year alone, he spent at least 86 days at a golf club, despite a late start due to the government shutdown. The golf excursions have included the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia; his Bedminister, New Jersey, golf club; Trump National Doral outside Miami; and Trump International Doonbeg in Ireland.
Trump joins a long list of presidents with a love of the game, though he is the only one who publicly -- and frequently -- criticized his predecessor, former President Barack Obama. Trump went after Obama's golf habits repeatedly on Twitter and on the campaign trail.
"I mean he's played more golf than most people on the PGA Tour, this guy," Trump said during a 2016 campaign stop in New Hampshire. "What is it, over 300 rounds? Hey, look, it's good. Golf is fine. But always play with leaders of countries and people that can help us! Don't play with your friends all the time."
Obama played 333 rounds of golf during his eight years in office, according to Mark Knoller of CBS News, who keeps detailed statistics of presidencies.
Though Trump criticized Obama for the price of his golf outings, the President's trips to Trump properties also raises questions about the federal government spending money at his namesake properties.
During a Christmas Eve call with US service members, Trump was asked about his holiday plans.
"I'm at a place called Mar-a-Lago, we call it the southern White House," he said. "I really pretty much work. That's what I like to do."
But Trump has long been known to mix business with pleasure at his golf properties both before and after assuming office.
As the US military carried out airstrikes in Iraq and Syria late Sunday morning, Trump was at his club. It's unclear whether he was playing golf at the time, however, CNN spotted him on the 14th hole approximately two hours after the strikes.
RELATED: Why Donald Trump golfing during Hurricane Dorian is a problem www.cnn.com/2019/09/03/politics/donald-trump-golf-hurricane/index.html
And while the President has repeatedly railed against impeachment on Twitter during his vacation, it's likely the topic has come up on the links, as well. His golf partners have included former Rep. Trey Gowdy on Sunday, Georgia Sen. David Perdue on Saturday, and Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham on Monday. Trump was seen in the club's dining room with radio host Rush Limbaugh, his son Eric, and acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney the previous weekend. He's also been joined by some less political partners, including golf pro Gene Sauers.
As for Trump's second week of vacation, it's likely the pattern will continue -- highs in the 70s and low 80s in the forecast. UPDATE: This story has been updated after Trump's visit to his golf club on Tuesday.
CORRECTION: This story has been updated to correctly state the location of Trump International Doonbeg.

Do you think Judicial Watch would try to release an accurate accounting of the travel expenses racked up by Trump? Of course they would not since Trump has already exceeded the total expenses incurred under Obama's eight years in office. So Trump will beat Obama at two things. Travel expenses and the run up of the National Debt, he is already over $3.5 trillion.
We already know he charges Resort Rates to Secret Service to be paid to HIS Resorts. We know that Don, Jr/Eric have traveled all over world promoting trump's businesses using taxpayers money to pay for protection, etc. We know trump is trying to get the Supreme Court to hear his case to keep his tax returns secret AND one thing that hasn't been talked about is his argument that he wants the Supreme Court to declare that a President cannot be charged with criminal offense. And will Trump also want to hide the $2 trillion in cuts to Social Security and Medicare in his budget for the next term? He told his minions not to discuss this, also, until after the election.
These conservative criminals are running such a SCAM! Mnuchin Wants to Delay Disclosure of Trump Travel Expenses Until After ElectionsNational ReviewJanuary 9, 2020, 7:06 AM MST www.yahoo.com/news/mnuchin-wants-delay-disclosure-trump-133858012.html
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin is seeking to delay the disclosure of Secret Service-records of travel expenses for President Trump until after the 2020 elections in the face of Democrats’ demands for the documents, the Washington Post reported Thursday.
Mnuchin is currently working with senators to draft legislation that would move the Secret Service under the purview of the Treasury Department. During those negotiations, Democrats involved in the draft process have demanded that the Secret Service disclose travel expenses for the President and his family members within 120 days of the bill’s passing.
The Treasury Department confirmed Mnuchin was working with Congress and Secret Service Director James Murray to draft legislation, but did not comment on the impasse in negotiations.
“Conversations about the return of the Secret Service to the Treasury Department are ongoing, and we decline to comment on individual aspects of those conversations,” a Treasury Department official told the Post.
The Secret Service was part of the Treasury Department until 2003, when it was moved to the Department of Homeland Security amid the fallout from the 9/11 attacks. Mnuchin began pushing to move the Secret Service back to its original home in 2018.
The conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch has revealed that the federal government spent almost $97 million on travel expenses for President Obama and his family. While the exact expenditures related to Trump’s travel ad protection remain unknown, there have been some indications that it has far outpaced his predecessors. www.judicialwatch.org/press-releases/judicial-watch-new-obama-travel-costs-bring-eight-year-total-96-million/
Travel expenses for President Trump in just one month of 2017 came in at $13.6 million www.gao.gov/assets/700/696512.pdf , as estimated by the congressional-watchdog Government Accountability Office. In March 2017, as the Secret Service was adjusting to Trump’s frequent golf outings and trips to his various properties, the agency asked Congress for an additional $60 million in funds to be entirely allocated to Trump’s travel, according to internal documents reviewed by the Post. According to federal spending data posted online, the secret service has spent $588,000 on golf carts alone while protecting Trump on his many outings.

Trump insists on playing at courses he owns. He has spent 27% of his presidency on Trump owned golf courses. Taxpayers don't just pay for Trump's golf expenses, the Secret Service's expenses all go right into his pocket since he owns the places he golfs. The American taxpayer is paying Trump to golf. The cost to taxpayers has been nearly four times as high as it was for Obama. More than two-thirds of Trump’s golf outings involve seven-figure trips aboard Air Force One, mainly to Florida and New Jersey, but also to Los Angeles, Ireland and Scotland. Obama, in contrast, played most of his golf on courses at military bases within a short drive of the White House. Steve Munchkin needs to release Trumps Expense report NOW not after the Election.Trump’s 29th Trip To Mar-a-Lago Brings Golf Tab To 334 Years Of Presidential SalaryS.V. Date HuffPost February 14, 2020, 5:15 PM MST www.yahoo.com/huffpost/trump-golf-mar-a-lago-taxpayers-001531310.html
President Donald Trump returned to Mar-a-Lago on Friday evening for the 29th golf-related trip of his presidency to his for-profit Palm Beach, Florida, resort, raising his total taxpayer golf tab to $133.8 million.
That figure translates to 334 years of the presidential salary that Trump and his supporters frequently boast he is not taking.
During Barack Obama’s presidency, Trump frequently claimed he was playing golf too much and at too great an expense to taxpayers.
“I play golf to relax. My company is in great shape. @barackobama plays golf to escape work while America goes down the drain,” Trump tweeted in December 2011.
“Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the U.S., President Obama spent the day playing golf. Worse than Carter,” he wrote three years later.
As he began his own run for the White House, candidate Trump repeatedly promised that golf would never make it onto a President Trump’s schedule. “I love golf, but if I were in the White House, I don’t think I’d ever see Turnberry again. I don’t think I’d ever see Doral again,” he told a rally audience in February 2016, referring to his courses in Scotland and Miami. “I don’t ever think I’d see anything. I just want to stay in the White House and work my ass off.”
Yet after three years in office, Trump has spent two-and-a-half times as many days on a golf course as Obama had done at the same point in his first term. If Trump plays golf both Saturday and Sunday, he will have played 248 times. Obama by his 1,123rd day in office had played 92 times.

And because Trump insists on playing at courses he owns, the cost to taxpayers has been nearly four times as high as it was for Obama.
What’s more, Trump’s insistence on playing at courses he owns and profits from has put at least a few million taxpayer dollars into Trump’s cash registers in the form of hotel room and restaurant charges for the White House staff and Secret Service agents who accompany him.
The Washington Post found recently that Trump’s business has charged the Secret Service as much as $650 a room per night at Mar-a-Lago ― more than three times the normal rate that federal employees are supposed to spend in South Florida ― and $17,000 a month for a cottage at Trump’s Bedminster, New Jersey, resort. During an early Mar-a-Lago visit, White House employees ran up a $1,006 bar tab, which taxpayers also paid.
How many taxpayer dollars precisely are flowing into Trump’s pocket is not known because the White House refuses to detail how many executive branch employees stay at Trump properties and how much they are being billed. The White House on Friday did not respond to HuffPost’s queries on the matter for this weekend’s trip.
The president is the sole beneficiary of the trust that now owns his family business. He promised during his campaign that he would separate himself from the Trump Organization should he win, but reneged on that pledge even before taking office.
Trump similarly promised he would release his tax returns when he ran for president, but he has refused to do that as well.

For indispensable reporting on the coronavirus crisis and more, subscribe to Mother Jones' newsletters. President Donald Trump, who in 2014 attacked Barack Obama for golfing during an Ebola outbreak that ultimately took the lives of two Americans, hit the links on Saturday as the number America deaths attributed to coronavirus neared 100,000.
That happens to be a total that Trump, in one of his frequently revised predictions of the virus’ expected toll, has said it will not exceed. “It looks like we’re headed to a number substantially below the 100,000,” he said on April 10. (He notoriously had opined on February 26 that 15 cases reported cases in the United States “within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”) There are now more 1.6 million confirmed cases in the United States, according to the New York Times, though there is no way to know the actual number, because, despite Trump’s claim on March 6 that “anybody that wants a test can get a test,” most people can’t get tests.
One hundred thousand deaths is also likely an undercount. State mortality figures compiled by the Centers for Disease Control suggest the ongoing pandemic has caused the deaths of somewhere between 33 to 60 percent more Americans than the official figure attributed to COVID-19. Though coronavirus continues to take the lives of around 1,200 Americans each day, Trump has recently amped up an effort to push for states and churches to reopen, a position nakedly aimed at aiding his reelection hopes by reversing an economic collapse that has left 38 million Americans unemployed. His outing Saturday appears aimed at signaling “the worst is behind us and that America is ready to return to normal,” as the Washington Post‘s Philip Bump wrote. Mission accomplished. Now watch this drive.
Trump traveled Saturday by motorcade from Washington, DC, to Sterling, Virginia, locales in which stay-at-home orders leave golf off limits to regular residents. It was his first golf outing since March 8, but also his 250th as president. As he often does, Trump played at one of his own courses, a practice that helps promote his floundering hospitality business and forces the Secret Service to spend taxpayer funds at Trump properties.
Some pundits have consistently argued that Trump’s golf, and hypocrisy over golf, is relatively unimportant amid his policy failures. And indeed, his coronavirus record would be ripe for criticism even if it included no golf. But symbolism matters. And as the death toll mounts, golf is the symbol Trump picked Saturday. Donald Trump prompted a familiar barrage of criticism on Saturday by visiting one of his own golf clubs as the country remains caught in numerous intensifying crises from the raging coronavirus epidemic to anti-racism protests to the failure to extend benefits to tens of millions of jobless Americans.
Trump arrived at his Virginia golf club in the morning, according to a report from the White House pool, after leaving Washington via motorcade and dressed in his usual golfing attire of a baseball cap and a polo shirt. publicpool.kinja.com/subject-in-town-pool-report-3-arrival-at-trump-nati-1844580582

In the 2016 campaign, and before, Trump often lambasted then president Barack Obama for his visits to the golf course and claimed that he would be too busy to play the sport if he was president. Since taking office, Trump’s visits to golf courses have far outpaced Obama’s. www.politifact.com/article/2017/oct/10/who-plays-more-golf-donald-trump-or-barack-obama/
Trump’s latest visit comes as the death toll in the US from the coronavirus tops 153,000 with more than 4.5 million positive cases – by far the largest totals in the world. It also happens as Washington fails to agree on an extension to a vital $600 dollar payment to jobless Americans – who will now lose that benefit.
The visit triggered much online criticism, including from some anti-Trump Republicans.
“I’m glad he’s playing golf. I’d pay him to play golf for the rest of his Presidency. The country would be much safer and much better off if all he did was golf for the next 5-6 months,” tweeted Joe Walsh, a former Republican congressman who ran a brief and unsuccessful bid to oust Trump as the party’s nominee in the 2020 election.

The ad's coup de grace comes when it contrasted Trump's promise of "no vacations" with the reality that he's enjoyed "more than a year of golf paid for by American taxpayers."
